Today I need to address
the issue of the Passover Seder and of the Last Supper of Yehoshua two thousand
years ago. But before I speak about this, I need to speak briefly about the
Person of Yehoshua.
Yehoshua, who is also
called Yeshua, died around 33 AD. He was born of a virgin, (Luqas/Luke 1:26-38). While
alive He preached the Kingdom of Elohim/God. He revealed the Father to His
followers, and gathered 12 disciples who later He called APOSTLES. After His baptism He was taken into the
wilderness to be tempted by the devil for 40 days. Mattithyahu/Matthew 4:1-16)
He basically fulfilled the Scriptures concerning him that we find written in
the book called “’Bible.”
Mattithyahu/Matthew
4:17 “From that time Yeshua[i]
began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
He became well known for His preaching, His
many miracles, and for healing on the Sabbath, (Matt. 12:9-14).
The Pharisees they did not appreciate Him
because He rebuked them for keeping traditions of men, instead of the pure
Torah given them from Yehovah, His Father, and our Creator: Yehovah. Eventually
He was crucified. But this was not accidental. He was born for this purpose. He
had to die, to pay the penalty for our sins, which is physical and spiritual death.
Our sin had separated us from our Heavenly Father. We needed to be reconciled
and saved through His life.
Romiyim/Romans 5:10 For
if when we were enemies we were reconciled to Elohim through the death of His
Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
He accomplished this work for us, by
taking our place on the cross. He is our Atonement and our Redeemer. His blood had to be shed
and applied to our lives to be accepted by the Father. Through believing in Him, we become reunited
with our Heavenly Father. Please read the following verses.
Yechezqel/Ezekiel 18:4
“See,
all beings are Mine, the being of the father as well as the being of the son is
Mine. The being that is sinning shall die” (HS)
Yechezqel/Ezekiel 18:4
“Behold, all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the
son is Mine; the soul who sins shall die.”(NKJV)
Romiyim/Romans 3:23
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of Elohim. (NKJV)
Yeshayahu/Isaiah 59:1-2,3
“Behold, Yehovah’s[ii]
Hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot
hear, 2 But your iniquities have separated you from your Elohim[iii];
and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear. 3 For your
hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; Your lips have
spoken lies, your tongue has muttered perversity.
Yehoshua is our Redeemer.
Romiyim/’Romans 3:24 Being
justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Mashiach
Yehoshua, 25 whom Elohim set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through
faith , to demonstrate His righteousness.
Eph’siyim/Ephesians 1:7
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according
to the riches of His grace 8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom
and prudence.
He was rejected by His
own, but He became the only Savior.
Ma’aseh/Acts 4:11-12 This is the ‘stone which
was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone. 12 Nor is
there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given
among men by which we must be saved.”
This was a brief
introduction to our Savior Yehoshua HaMashiach.
Now I must add that He
was the perfect sacrifice, for He did not sin. He kept the Torah or I
Commandments perfectly all the time till His death on the cross.
Qorin’tiyim 2/2
Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we
might become the righteousness of Elohim in Him. (See also Yeshayahu/Isaiah 53)
Because He was born of
Elohim, He did not inherit of the fallen Adam as we did. He only did what the
Father said for Him to do. He was perfect in every way.
Yehovah blessed the
Sabbath day after He created the universe I six days.
Bereshith/Genesis 2:1-3
Thus the Heaven and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. 2 And
on the seventh day Elohim ended His work which He had done, and He rested on
the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 then Elohim blessed the
seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which
Elohim had created and made.
Yehoshua kept the
Sabbath, and because He only did what the Father was doing, He healed on the
Sabbath, and because he is the master of the Sabbath (Matt.12:8). But He never broke the Commandment to keep
the Sabbath day Holy, (Shemoth 20:8-11). He kept all the
Feasts, such as Pesach/Passover, Shavuot/Pentecost, Trumpets, or Day of
Shouting, Yom ha’Kippurim/Day of Atonement, and Succoth, (Wayyiqra/Leviticus 23).
Then the day He knew
was arrived to be given as our Atonement He told the apostles to prepare a
dinner. Some bibles say Passover, however, it could not have been a Passover
meal for He would be sacrificed the following day as our Lamb who takes away
the sins of the world.
Yochanan/John 1:29 The
next day Yochanan saw Yehoshua coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of Elohim who takes away the sin of the world!”
Yochanan was a type of
Elijah that whose mission was to prepare the way of Yehoshua, our Mashiach. He
said of himself, “I am ‘The voice of one crying in the wilderness; “Make straight the
way of Yehovah.” (Yochanan I:23)
Shemoth/Exodus12:1-28
tells us the details of preparing the Pesach. We learned that it had to be in
the first month. Yehovah declared the month they came out of Egypt to be the
first month of the year. He then gave instruction to take the lamb on the tenth
day of that month, and kill it on the fourteenth day of the same month. He gave
instructions how to roast the lamb and it had to be a perfect animal. They had to consume it completely the same night.
That night Yehovah sent the last plague, the death of the first born.
I say all this to
clarify something very important. All
the feasts teach us about the life and death of Mashiach. Yehoshua had to
fulfill completely and perfectly the feast that are also Historical and
prophetic shadow pictures of our Mashiach. Yeshua died at the age of 33 years.
He gave a temporary supper to the twelve apostles. At the dinner He broke the
bread and told them to eat it because it was His body. He was still alive. But
the bread had to be eaten from that day on, remembering Him. and His sacrifice
that soon was to be offered to the Father on our behalf. He had to die not only
for them, but for each one of us, in order for all of us to be reconciled to
the Father. He was about to become the
lamb that takes away all the sin from the world. We do not think they
understood yet the importance of eating that particular bread, and after the
bread also drinking the wine, which represented His shed blood. However, later,
after His resurrection they understood.
Some well intentioned
brethren teach that He had a seder! However, the seder ceremony was invented in
the year 1200 according to the scholars I heard teaching on this subject. The
seder purpose was done to fill a spiritual need because on the Year 70 AD the
Temple was destroyed and they could not longer use the Lamb on Pesach for there
was no altar to pour the blood.
Besides this fact,
Yehovah could not have had a Pesach/Passover dinner for that year He was to
become the Pesach Lamb! He died the fourteenth day of the first biblical month at the same time the
Cohen ha’Gadol offered the yearly Sacrifice at 3PM, or between the evenings. He
had to die the same day and at the same
time, the lamb was offered to be our Passover Lamb. not the day before or day
after! He kept the Feasts perfectly. He had to keep the Pesach perfectly or He would have sinned
against the Word of Yehovah and He would have been disqualified to be our
perfect Sacrificial Lamb.
Yehoshua said, “Do think
that I came to destroy the Law (Torah) or the Prophets. I did not come to
destroy but to fulfill.” Mattithyahu/Matthew 5:17
We may keep the Seder
now, but with the understanding that our Lamb of Yehovah fulfilled the Word perfectly
until the end. Let us not say that He did a seder as fact, for there is no evidence. To state
something as fact we need evidence, and in this case we do not have it. By
saying that He kept the seder without any verse of scripture to prove it is a
lie.
We cannot add nor take
away from the word. Let us be very careful to not add anything at all.
Devarim/Deuteronomy 4:2
“You shall not add to the word which I command you, not take from it, that you
may keep eh commandments of Yehovah your Elohim which I command you.
Devarim 12:32 Whatever
I command you be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it not take away from
it.”
Mattithyahu 5:17 “Do
not think that I came to destroy the Law of the Prophets. I did not come to
destroy but to fulfill.”
Conclusion: Yehoshua is
our Pesach Lamb who died and rose again. He is alive today and we will be with
Him for eternity. If you believe in Him and are baptized, I will see you in Heaven! I will speak on
this subject later on.
Shalom!
