After the death of Shelomoh his son Rechav’am became king.
However, Rechav’am was not very wise, and according to the Word of Yahweh, he lost the ten tribes. (Melakhim 1/1 Kings 12: 2-19)
Melakhim 1/1 Kings 12:20 And it came to be when all Yisra’el heard that Yarob’am had come back, they sent for him and called him to the congregation, and appointed him to reign over all Yisra’el. There was none who followed the house of Dawid, except the tribe of Yahudah only.
But Rechav’am was not very happy about it. He may not have known about the devil, but if a Christian would have experienced such trouble, may have began to bind the devil! However, it was not the devil, but Yahweh passing judgment on the family.
We must be very careful not to give the devil too much credit. Yahweh is Sovereign and He is still in control no matter how many problems come our way.
Rechav’am wanted fight Yarob’am but the prophet told him to stop for it was Yahweh’s doing. (Melakhim 1/1 Kings 12:21-24) When things do not go as we expect, we must pause for a moment. Let us not be too quick to get the answer, but wait upon Yahweh, and He will clarify or illuminate every thought in our minds. He must be first in our thoughts, and we must let Him search our hearts for any secret sin. In this case Rechav’am was suffering not necessarily for his own sin, but the sin of his father.
Yahweh was judging Yisra'el, and the king could do nothing about it.
Devarim/Deut. 10:17 “For Yahweh your Elohim is Elohim of mighty ones and Adon (Lord) of masters, (lords), the great El, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe.”
We may be slow to understand that Yahweh is not a man as we are, but He cannot be manipulated or force to change His Rules according to our ways.
We cannot be Elohim (God). He has created us less than He is. Tehillim/Psalm 8:5 “You have made him a little less than Elohim.”
For if He would have created us as He is, He would cease to exist as Elohim. We must be content to function with the abilities He has given us. We must submit to Him, and not Him to us.
Man may be smart, but Yahweh is much smarter than man, and He will never change!
Mal’akhi/Malachi 3:6 “For I am Yahweh, I shall not change.”
There is security for each of us when we do understand this truth. He is not capricious, and changes His mind as may do every moment. No! He is steadfast, unwavering, unmovable, and we can place our trust in Him, and not be disappointed.
So, we discovered that the kingdom was taken away from Shelomoh's son, who because of the sin of his father, and maybe even because of his own pride! He lost then tribes, but kept one for the sake of King Dawid, his grandfather. This young king did not seem to fear Yahweh. He listened to his friends to his own detriment. Nevertheless, as we know, it was Yahweh’s will. (Melakhim 1/ 1 Kings 12: 2-19)
Rechav’am/ Rehoboam did not know Yahweh had already pronounced judgment on Yisra’el.
But Yarob’am did not learn the lesson from Shelomoh’s idolatry!
Melakhim 1/1 Kings 12:26 And Yarov’am said in his heart, “Now the reign shall return to the house of Dawid. 27 If these people go up to do slaughtering in the House of Yahweh at Yerushalayim, then the heart of this people shall turn back to their master, Rechav’am sovereign of Yahudah, and they shall slay me and go back to Rechav’am sovereign of Yahudah. 28 So the sovereign took counsel and made two calves of gold, and said to the people, “It is too much for you to go up to Yerushalayim. See, your mighty ones, O Yisra’el, which brought you up from the land of Mitsrayim!”
What was his motive? His motive was fear of losing the kingdom that Yahweh Himself had entrusted him with. This is big stuff! He got gifted with the kingdom, but now he fears to lose it!
Is this why some ministries take such huge offerings, in the churches and on television, because they fear their ministry will not continue if they do not raise all that money?
Is this the reason why all the gimmickry? We really need a renewal in our lives in order for us not fall in to it this sort of lifestyle. We should, and must trust Yahweh, that He will finish all those things He has called us to do in our lives. If He has given us a television ministry, or a ministry to feed the poor, we must do things His way, not bombarding people to get money. If we keep on asking for money we are lacking faith. Trust is Him is what we need to have, and not in our own abilities.
We need to know that we are not judged on how much we produce, but how well we trust and obey Him. The results are His, and all glory goes to Him alone.
When men try to press others to give money, they are not walking in faith. Many times they press people for money by offering things, ether their books, or anything else. They say: ‘if you give this much, you get this much”, and so forth. I am against those fundraisers. They seem to be motivated by greed, in my opinion. There was a man who was called to care for orphans. He never asked for money, but people gave to him all he needed. The problem is that sometimes we loose tract of who gave us the call.
Many times there is competition going on, and measuring self with others. Wanting to excel no matter what the cost. It seems to me that pride is in operation in those cases. I am sure not everyone is in the same category, but many may be. Only Yahweh really knows the heart of the person. If you are a pastor who does all the above-- examine your conscience, and your own ethics. Are they glorifying Yahweh? See if there is anything wrong in your thinking, and if there is, repent quickly. Amen.
And now let us read from the book of Shemoth/Exodus.
Shemoth 20:2-5, 22-23 “I am Yahweh your Elohim, who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim/Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 You shall have no other gods before Me. 4 You shall not make for yourself a carved image-any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I Yahweh your Elohim am a jealous Elohim, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me. “ 22 Then Yahweh said to Mosheh, “Thus you shall say to the children of Yisra’el: ‘You have seen that I have talked with you from heaven. 23 You shall not make anything to be with Me-gods of silver or gods of gold you shall not make for yourselves.
Yahweh gave a specific command concerning idolatry. But man….
Shemoth/Exodus 32: 1-6 And when the people saw that Mosheh was so long coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, “Arise, make us mighty ones (gods) that shall go before us; for as for this Mosheh, the man who brought us up out of the land of Mitsrayim, we do not know what has become of him. 2 And Aharon said to them, “Take off the golden earrings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me. 4 And he took from their hand, and he formed it with an engraving tool, and made a moulded calf. And they said, “This is your mighty one, o Yisra’el, that brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim!
Aaron was to be the Cohen ha’Gadol, (the High Priest), and he listened to them instead of obeying the Command of Yahweh. Did he fashion the idol to please the people? Or was he deceived as they were? So, we can see, that no one is above of being deceived, even the Pope and the highest authority in our land can be deceived.
And how many high and lifted up men have already fallen!
They did what they were familiar with in the land of Mitsrayim/Egypt. One of the major gods in Egypt was the god Hathor. She was represented as a woman with a sun disk on her head, or as a cow with a sun disk between the horns. They created various forms of the same god. But basically it is all about sun god worship, which we also see in the some churches and all over America today.
Mosheh came down from the mountain and he pulverized the calf and made them drink the water. Then the Levites (Shemoth32:26-28) who joined themselves to Mosheh killed every one his brother who had participated in the worship of the calf, and about 3000 souls died that day.
Yarob’am forgot this incident, and made not only one but two golden calves, and placed one in Beyth El, and one in Dan. After all he came out of Mitsrayim where he witnessed the worship of this god. He probably thought, "Why not'?!
He also invented his own priesthood, and the his own feasts days. Instead of the people going to Yahudah to worship in the seventh biblical month to celebrate Succoth, he made them stay in the Northern Kingdom. He chose the eight month to celebrate those idols, instead of the seventh. He made his own religion. (Melakhim1/1 Kings 12:26-33)
However, some Levites and others still went to the Temple in Yerushalayim to worship. I also read that others moved to Yahudah, (Judah) to live there.
Yarov’am did not trust the Word of Yahweh who gave him the ten tribes, which was later called the Northern Kingdom, or Ephrayim.
Instead he established His own kingdom by leading his people into idolatry. Many Kings have caused the nation to stumble over and over again.
Sadly, there are also ministers who have damaged the Congregations by their insecurities, and through preaching things contrary to the Word, only because it was new thing or “new revelation” in some circles. Many times false teachings have been added to the Word, and by removing what is holy. We cannot add nor take away from the Word for Yahweh forbids it.
Devarim/Deut. 4:2 “Do not add to the Word which I command you, and do not take away from it. So as to guard the Commands of Yahweh your Elohim which I am commanding you.”
But does the congregations listens to Him? Let us listen to devar ha’Elohim, the Word of Elohim, and be safe.
I will continue this message next time.
